Modernization of obsolete elevators
According to p. 6.1.22 of Rules of installation and safe operation of elevators elevator equipment, regardless of the manufacturer and technical characteristics, has its service life, after which the elevator must undergo an expert examination, that is, an assessment of its technical condition.
As a result of the expert examination, a conclusion is drawn up, where it is indicated what repairs to the elevator should be made, what should be replaced, and whether its further safe operation is possible.
Modernization options
Not always after 25 years the elevator equipment is in such a condition that requires its complete replacement, i.e. complete removal of the elevator equipment, up to the removal of guide rails from the shaft, and installation of a new one. And this procedure is very costly, because, it requires installation and adjustment of the elevator from scratch.
Therefore, it is mainly modernization (replacement) of its main units – winch, traction ropes, and control station.
Also, modernization may include the replacement of the cabin and doors, repair, and replacement of details. After examination, the guaranteed service life of the equipment depends on the modernization performed, i.e., the service life is extended by:
- 4 years – if repairs have been carried out without replacing the main components;
- 10 years – if modernization was carried out with the replacement of main components.
After modernization, the elevator equipment must undergo technical inspection of its condition and receive a conclusion allowing its further operation. And also to carry out the commissioning in the department of the State Labor Service, if the elevator was replaced with a new one.
We recommend: carrying out a complete replacement of the elevator and details of the shaft in case the metal structures of the shaft, and the frame of the shaft are not safe for their further operation.
