A passenger elevator for your home

The first elevator to lift passengers in a skyscraper was designed and installed in New York City in 1857 by Elisha Graves Otis, an American inventor and founder of the Otis Elevator Company. He also developed the first catchers to keep the elevator from falling down the shaft in the event of an accident. Since then, the equipment has been modernized, and improved, becoming more functional and safe, but one thing remains the same – passenger elevators have retained their relevance today.

Basic parameters and types of elevators

Passenger elevators are designed for the transportation of people and small-sized cargo in residential and non-residential buildings. Their load capacity varies from 300 and 450 kg to 630 and 1000 kg. The choice of load capacity, number of elevators, and their speed depends on the number of floors and passenger traffic flow and is regulated by the relevant regulatory documentation.
For the convenience of passengers, the elevator cabin can be as with the opening of the doors on one side, and through, when the exit is carried out in both directions. Modern elevators can have a machine room, that contains a control station and equipment that ensures the operation of the elevator, and without a machine room, when the equipment is installed directly in the elevator shaft, and the control station is located on the last floor near the entrance to the elevator.

According to the type of drive, passenger elevators are divided into such types:

  • electric: the most popular type of elevator; the motion of the cabin is driven by an electric drive with a winch and traction ropes;
  • hydraulic: a hallmark – silent operation; a hydraulic cylinder drives the cabin;
  • pneumatic: this is a capsule type of elevator and it is not designed for high-rise buildings, it is used in cases where it is not impossible to install a standard electric elevator; the cabin is driven by regulating the flow of air into the shaft.

Each type of elevator has both its pros and cons. The choice depends on the load in the future operation, purpose, and object of installation.
Since the transportation of passengers is required not only in apartment buildings but also in shopping and business centers, passenger elevators are with a blind cabin and panoramic, that is, a transparent elevator cabin allows for an external view. Such elevators are mainly used in shopping centers. They can be both shaft and mounted on a metal frame. There are also passenger elevators for private homes. Such equipment has a small capacity (up to 300 kg) and low power consumption. The cabin can be equipped for the individual requirements of the client.

For more comfortable use, the cabin of passenger elevators can be equipped with air conditioning. The option is available for private homes, business and entertainment centers, and apartment buildings.
